City Commission 121 N Rouse Ave Bozeman, MT 59715
Dear City Commission, Trout Unlimited (TU) is intimately involved in ongoing conservation efforts in the Gallatin watershed and we believe that improving open space in Bozeman is critical for the health of our
communities and natural resources. For this reason, TU is reaching out to ask that you approve
the Parks Division's 2024 Cash-in-lieu of Parkland budget proposal. The proposed budget includes funding for a community grant program and other Parks, Recreation & Active Transportation Plan implementation projects like tree planting and interpretive signage.
As Bozeman grows, increased stress is applied to our city’s open spaces and water ways making
it critical to invest in these important resources. Funding proposed in the Parks Division’s budget would provide dedicated funding to engage the community through projects that would improve water quality, habitat for fish and wildlife, and recreational opportunities. A recent example of such a project occurred at Story Mill Park this May when TU, 20 volunteers, and several other
conservation organizations worked with the Parks Division to install 63 native plants and construct 400 ft of fence to protect the East Gallatin River. With the approval of Parks Division's budget proposal, projects like these would become more common. This would result in increased community stewardship of our natural resources and improve open space.
Trout Unlimited encourages you to adopt the Parks Division's 2024 Cash-in-lieu of Parkland budget as currently proposed.
