To the City Commission and Community Development Department:
I am writing to express my concerns about 216 housing units being built across the street where I
live at 612 N. 3rd Avenue. I do understand the need for affordable rentals in Bozeman, but this new
complex needs more parking units than currently planned. The average number of vehicles per
household is 1.8 which totals 388 parking spaces; however, only 271 parking spaces are anticipated.
Bozeman seems to persist in the erroneous belief and desire to be a walking and biking town. This
would be nice if it were true but everyone has a CAR to get to their hiking and biking adventures. The
condo units across the street from me have two car garages underground. Guess what- people store
stuff in their garages and still park in the street.
I am very concerned about traffic flow. Our residential street is often a raceway and not at all suited
for the additional traffic with high density development. Access off W. Tamarack should be
considered.
The deep incentives referenced in the application make it sound good, but they come at a cost to
someone so that the developer can make money. I can assure you they will profit handsomely while
city taxpayers foot the “incentives.”
In general I consider the posting and comment period to be absurdly short but I can’t say I’m
surprised given the current commission’s love of development and developers. Everything about this
seems as though it’s already been decided and this is just a rubber stamp process.
This is where I’m supposed to thank you for consideration of my concerns but I can’t because I don’t
honestly feel they have been considered in the slightest, nor have the concerns of the property
owners on N Third been considered beyond the perfunctory requirements of the notification
process.
In the world of development and the Bozeman powers that be we simply don’t count.
