I live on the west side of this open space, and have looked thoroughly at the plans on the Bozeman city website. One plan shows all the vegetation on the west side of the open space, as being set for “removal of existing vegetation”. This would include several very old, large trees, and numerous chokecheery hedges, yellow roses, and more. These all provide a lot of bird habitat and green space for the public. Last year a resident of Darlinton Manor, with the help of other residents, created a “park” on the hill adjoining the Darlinton parking lot. It had been a dumping ground. Now it is a very pleasant spot for barbeques, picnics, children’s water play and more with tables, chairs. But none of this park is actually on Darlinton property and now it is in jeopardy. It has created so much peace and quiet for everyone. Not only is this park space used by the residents of Darlinton, but the large open land below is used by hundreds of citizens for quiet walks, walks with dogs (and cats), enjoyment and work in the community gardens, and enjoyment of the BMX races. Rain or shine, winter or summer, the open space is used every day, and evenings and is very much needed in this part of town. I was dismayed to see the plans for a 4 story complex going up directly adjoining the east fence line of Darlinton Manor. I read the article in the Chronicle that mentions the amount of parking spaces. I believe the amount mentioned (271) is incorrect, according to the plan online, which delineates over 300 spaces. This plan, is nothing more than many tall buildings with concrete in between for parking, and will be a great detriment to this entire neighborhood. I was shocked to see in the plan that the developers owe cash “in lieu” of what seems to be a regulation to provide green space. We all know, (and I have lived here more than 40 years in Bozeman, and recently retired from the US Government civil service) that we need to preserve more space for families and neighbors, especially as Whittier School is a block away and so many high rises are already going up in Bozeman. Not to mention the traffic congestion. I know your time is short and I appreciate your attention my comment. I know many, many others who feel the same way I do about this project. Please do all you can to keep it from happening. Sincerely, Beth Hickok Sent from Mail for Windows
