To Whom it May Concern,
I am writing this letter in opposition to the Thriftway Super Stop Site Plan. The approval of this
proposed development would be detrimental to both the surrounding residents and the
community of Bozeman itself.
This new structure will be a nuisance per se in every sense of the term. A gas station built in a
residential area will introduce light pollution, sound pollution, increased traffic to an already
busy intersection, and draw transients and potential criminal activity to a family residential
area.
This proposal does not meet Bozeman’s city requirement for safe access so close to the
intersection of Baxter and Davis, as required by BMC 38.400.090. For this reason, Application
#22039 and the special permit required under BMC 38.230.120 should be denied.
Furthermore, the houses backing up to Baxter/Davis were mandated by the city to install 4-
foot fences – and now, you propose to allow a 24-hour gas station to shine light and emit
noise into their household at all hours of the night? What is the city proposing to do to ease
the nuisance of this new business to these homeowners? And how will the city compensate
for the negative impact this nuisance will have on our home values?
Allowing a special permit for the construction of a Thriftway Super Stop in this residential area
makes no sense. There is already a large amount of traffic at this intersection – we have
children walking to and from school crossing Baxter and Davis, please do not allow for a
special permit to build a unnecessary Gas Station at this location that will put our children in
danger.
In conclusion, please reject the special permit for the construction of a Thriftway Super Stop in
our residential neighborhood.
Respectfully,
Sara Lemert
