Please consider the attached letter in opposition to Application #22309.Thank you, Barbara Tylka I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed Thrifty Super Stop Site Plan and Special Use Permit, Application #22039. Most obviously, with four gas stations less than 2 miles from this proposed project—and one only a mile away—it is completely unnecessary. Secondly, I do not believe that North Davis with one lane in each direction is capable of handling the increased traffic that this project will bring. Nineteenth Avenue with multiple traffic lanes in each direction is the place for a project such as this one. Finally, and most importantly, this is a residential neighborhood. We homeowners purchased homes in this area with the expectation that it would stay that way. Instead, you are now proposing that residents will have bright lights shining into their homes twenty-four hours a day and markedly increased noise levels. Both of these factors have been shown to be detrimental to long term health by decreasing the quality of sleep and increasing stress hormone levels. Additionally, poor sleep and increased stress lead to poorer academic performance for children and poorer work performance in adults. In conclusion, in light of the many gas stations/convenience stores in the immediate area, the proposed Thrifty Super Stop does not address any unmet needs. It does, however, decrease the quality of life for the residents in this area. I strongly urge you to deny Application #22039.
