Hello, I was recently notified of a pending application to build and operate a gas station on the corner of Baxter & Davis here in Bozeman. Please log this as a formal protest to the construction of a gas station in our neighborhood. I live at 3389 Lolo Way in the city of Bozeman and a gas station is not only not needed but would create a hazard to our community and to our children. The hazard to the community and children is in the form of increased traffic, the inherent dangers of having transient vehicles traveling through the area at all hours of the night andusing the station to purchase alcohol. There is empirical evidence in nearly every city in this country that gas stations are some of the highest areas involving crime after 8pm at night, that is because they are open and accessible. Types of crimes in those areas include theft, robbery, assaults, reckless driving and alcohol usage. Why would we want that type of behavior with a residential area directly across the street? It is not to say that gas stations are bad, but they cause problems when you place them in or directly across from residential housing. Almost all gas stations in this city are located away from housing, as itshould be. The city has allowed for two Town Pump gas stations less than a mile away on a major artery (19th Ave) and there is just no reason to allow this station to be built. A station further down Davis at the intersection of E. Valley Center Rd would not impact our neighborhoods. There are currently two Town Pumps, Costco Gas and the Smith's Fuel Center all very close to this area and provide ample fuel to the area. Town Pump 1871 Baxter- 4,400 feet away Town Pump 2525 N. 19th- 1 mile away Costco gas 2505 Catron - 1.3 miles away Smith's Fuel 1735 W. Oak- 1.71 miles away. None of those fuel facilities border a residential area as this proposed plan does. The attached image shows your proposed location with a black arrow and the existing fuel stations with red arrows. Please don't allow this fuel station to be built in or around our neighborhoods. I would assume that there have been no public city meetings where any of the residents in this area have indicated that they needed additional fuel stations. We are very close to several other stations and if there is a need, build it further downDavid towards the freeway or in a commercial area that does not border residential areas. I understand you want to elevate traffic on 19th, and this may be part of a larger plan to expand Davis St. While that is not a good idea, adding a fuel station or any high-volume business is not solving a problem, but creating a problem. We have a great community here in N. Bozeman and if you allow this station, you are intentionally creating a dangerous situation for the children and families and lowering our property values. This is a horrible idea and should not be allowed. Thank you, Kyle Ritter 406-640-3599
