To whom it may concern, I would first like to introduce myself as a working business professional who has been a part of the local Bozeman community for over 20 years now. My new company (Guaranteed Rate) wanted to build a presence/brand here in Bozeman and we searched high and low for good real estate with a safe, central location and finally landed on 1001 W Oak Street, Suite 110, Building C, Bozeman, MT 59715. When we first moved in we noticed a little bit of the transient population, but nothing terrible. As the months progressed more and more homeless moved in on N 11th Ave (next to Kenyon Noble). I writing you today because this problem is getting completely out of control and I am worried about my safety and those of my fellow coworkers. Does the city realize how big of an issue this truly is? I beg you to please listen to each of these accounts and then ask yourself if this really what a working citizen should have to deal with on a daily basis. My office window overlooks a beautiful creek and a path that leads you right to Oak Street- this is also now the main path for the homeless to walk from their current village to Oak Street. Today I looked out my window and one of the homeless woman was wearing her sports bra and bathing in the creek and washing her hair. This is a business complex!!! .. but now this is a water source for them to bathe in. Bozeman Deaconess Fertility Clinic with the hospital is moving into the complex right across from me and this will be their view as well. I can tell you without a doubt they will be calling as soon as they move in as their view is the same as mine. I can assure you the hospital is not going to want to deal with these issues outside their office windows either. Homeless have been sleeping under the bridge in our driveway countless times. I show up at work and they are still sleeping there. Every day I see countless homeless pushing their shopping carts and on many occasions you can clearly see that they are high or drunk- stumbling as they walk through our parking lot. I quickly try and get to my car trying not to make eye contact as I don’t want to encounter someone on drugs. I have encountered a homeless woman using our rest room inside our building and upon me entering there was a terrible smell. Not sure what she was doing in there or if it was drug activity. I immediately had to clean the whole bathroom- which our clients use along with RealtyOne Group and Absorka Pain and Rehab. I have asked my property manager to add a lock or code on the bathrooms to avoid this in the future. One homeless man walks by my office window on repeat and has been banging on my window and waving at me while I was on the phone trying to talk to clients. I have now resorted to closing my blinds most of the time to avoid this. This same man told the manager at Absorka Rehab that he “watches me” through the window. I now have mace in my office drawer as during the winter I am scared leaving when it is dark. I hadn’t called the police because honestly I fear that if they are approached this man he is going to know it is me and then who knows what could happen. So for the time being I have just been trying to ignore it and hope it gets better, but it only is getting 10X worse. My property maintenance manager told me he has busted drugs deals many times in our parking lot. Today a strange man in a beanie walked into our office with blooms he picked off a tree out front and handed them to my co-worker as he was apparently walking around our office “looking around”. I filed a police report today as we think he was “scoping out” our office or perhaps checking to see who all worked inside. Every day this problem is getting worse and worse. There is a huge pile of trash right at our entrance to our business and it is now beginning to effect our traffic and the concerns of our customers. When does this end? Can we not find a place to relocate them to? I am writing to you as the Area Manager for the State of MT for Guaranteed Rate and this is not acceptable for our business to be subject to this activity and safety fears. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN MY WORK PLACE. My husband is worried about me being there at any times past 5pm as many days I have to work late. Please take all of these accounts into consideration. This is not just a problem on 11th but all around Bozeman in many different locations. This is bringing crime and activity we DO NOT want in business locations. I want to feel safe and have my clients feel safe approaching our business.
