Dear Lynn Hyde,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concerns and opposition to theproposed low-income housing development that is planned to be built across from my residence. Asa member of this community a renter and future homeowner, I believe it is crucial to address thepotential negative impacts this project will have on the neighborhood and its residents.
First, I would like to emphasize that the construction of a low-income housing development near myhome and other neighboring properties would have a detrimental effect on our property values. Themarket value of our homes would likely depreciate significantly, as the presence of suchdevelopments is often associated with the perception of increased crime rates and lowereddesirability. This perception is not far from the truth in our neighborhood, my car has been brokeninto and had the tires slashed on two different occasions. My neighbors have had similarexperiences. There are frequent drug deals up the street from my house with a steady flow ofhomeless people passing through from Walmart. This situation is annoying for the hardworkingindividuals and families who have invested their savings into creating a secure and comfortable livingenvironment for themselves.
Furthermore, it is important to consider the issue of parking availability. From my understanding, theproposed development does not provide sufficient parking spaces to accommodate the potentialnumber of residents. This would undoubtedly lead to increased congestion and parking difficultieson the surrounding streets, exacerbating an already challenging situation. The lack of proper parkingfacilities poses a safety concern and would create inconvenience for both the residents of the low-
income housing and the existing community members.
Another noteworthy point is the existing concentration of low-income housing developments in ourarea. Currently, there are already three low-income housing projects in close proximity to myneighborhood, all situated on the north side of town. The proposed would further imbalance thedistribution of such facilities, potentially creating an unfair burden on our community.
Considering these concerns, I respectfully request that you reconsider the location of the proposedlow-income housing development. I understand the importance of providing affordable housingoptions for those in need, but it is equally important to ensure that such developments are placed ina fair and equitable manner across the entire community. I urge you to explore alternative locationswithin the town that can accommodate the needs of low-income residents without adverselyaffecting property values, parking availability, and the existing social fabric of our neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Carter Gall
