Hi Nakeisha -
I saw public comment has begun on this and wanted to formally ask this project be DENIED.I'll reiterate my previous reasoning amended for your thoughtful responses.
Main reasoning:
- Davis and Baxter are already the main thoroughfare to 2 giant Town Pumps that were builtrecently and Costco gas.
- I spent some time thinking to myself 'why am I opposed?' and safety and cleanliness come tomind. The Town Pumps with 'space' around them have attracted the largest population of
camper/van living. These areas are littered with trash and I wouldn't feel comfortable walkingwith my two small children. The city has done nothing to address these concerns and I watch
the number of campers out my backyard grow daily on the NW corner of Baxter/Davis.- all of the fences for the houses in both Crossing 2 and West Wind were forced to be low and
see through. A gas station with undoubtedly excessive lighting into the night would not be thetype of B-2 business that should be built in a residential neighborhood. It took the city over 2+
years to deal with light pollution (mediocrely) from the street lights and I think this wouldexacerbate it. No one is volunteering to provide the neighborhoods with funding to build
privacy fences and landscaping. We are all struggling with no community wide finances tohelp; and this further lowers our property values plus puts the corporate 'gas companies'
priorities above citizens.- the surrounding commercial businesses are all day-time only related activities which are fit
for residential neighbors (La Tinga, Dental, Hubspot, Pitt, Medical Office planned further upDavis). The fact you stated the lights have to be turned down by 11pm is far too late. Are you
still awake at 11pm? I'm not - so that means I never experience a time of the day when this gasstation wouldn't be an eyesore or loud.
- an elementary school is slated to be practically next door soon. A gas station would increasecar traffic and reduce safety from neighborhood kids walking to school. You said this wasn't
in the plan for 8-10 years. So are we growing Bozeman for today? Or for years down the roadto be successful?
- cars regularly 'idle' when pumping gas or waiting for a spot. The proximity to residentialhomes and increased exhaust inhalation is not healthy. This further adds to the nuisance of a
gas station and wildly inappropriate for a residential neighborhood.
In summary, I'm not saying this lot shouldn't be developed. However, a business better suitedfor neighborhood use and consideration for a future elementary school next door would ensure
we are building out the north side of town to remain a desirable place to live. As of now, Ithink this further points to treating the North Side of town second-class compared to the South
Side of town (you don't see a gas station on S 3rd st for example).
The impact to the community will be far too negative at this time.
Thank you for reviewing my feedback.
