Re: Sump drain policy
Many areas of Bozeman are subject to high groundwater levels. Building structures
with crawl spaces or basements in these areas can present many challenges, and
subdivision plats typically include recommendations to avoid constructing buildings
with full or partial basements in these high groundwater areas.
If you elect to design and construct a building with a basement or crawl space and
encounter problems with groundwater entering the basement or crawl space,be
advised that under no circumstances will you be allowed to have a sump drain that
discharges to a street or other public right-of-way, a sanitary sewer line, or onto
neighboring properties.
Sump drains installed contrary to this policy shall be considered a municipal
infraction of Chapter 34,Bozeman Municipal Code, punishable by a civil penalty of
not less than$100.00 or more than$300.00 for a first violation; a civil penalty of not
less than $100.00 of more than $500.00 for each repeat violation; and each day of
violation shall constitute a separate violation.
Building permit applications for structures with crawl spaces or basements must
include a signed copy of this policy with permit application materials.
By signing this document I certify 1 will abide by the City of Bozeman p rain
Policy.
