I'm writing to let you know I support the proposal to ban the sale and discharge of fireworks in
the City. I agree with Chief Waldo's concerns regarding the fire danger fireworks create. I alsosupport the ban because rarely do individuals in possession of fireworks adhere to the current
city code specifying the date, time and type of fireworks that may be discharged.
I also don't like the fact that after a holiday "event" I'm picking up fireworks debris from myproperty, including the roof. In one way or another, the fireworks create a fire hazard to
houses and surrounding vegetation.
I have pets that are sensitive to fireworks and in the recent past I've had to take them out oftown during the majority of the fireworks discharge period (i.e., on the 4th of July or New
Year's Eve). Usually that requires I drive up to Bozeman Pass and sit for hours until my wifecalls me to let me know it's calmed down. It's been rough the past several years. Now that the
pandemic is gone and the Canadian border is open, we will be spending the 4th north of theborder where there are no fireworks. This is something we would do pre-pandemic because of
the excessive noise and stress created on our dogs.
I realize that fireworks sales is a way for organizations to make some money for theiractivities. Well, too bad, they should find another method to generate some income. I don't
care if it's been their tradition for decades. Bozeman is a different place now and with thegrowth comes change. For everyone.
Thank you.
