I have lived on south third for 45 years and the last 5 years of fireworks for 4th of July
celebrations have been unbearable. We have had dogs that needed to be tranquilized and as I
get older, I feel I need to be tranquilized. I instead move to the basement and use earplugs. I
also worry about the fire dangers as the available fireworks just get bigger and louder. Some
years we do leave our home seeking quiet at night. I think a city-wide ban on fireworks is
logical and necessary. Other cities can ban them, why give residents of those cities a fireworks
haven in Bozeman. I am not worried about families or organizations using fireworks revenue
to subsidize their livelihood! They can find another source of fundraising.
My husband wrote a letter to the city commission years ago when Steve Kirchoff was the
mayor, nothing happened and it just got worse. We lived next door to a mayor and spelled
out our complaints, nothing happened and it just got worse. Maybe it is time to listen to
residents of Bozeman and not to the fireworks lobby of stand owners and people who only
enjoy a huge bang for their buck. Perhaps consider the emotional wellbeing of residents
seeking a quiet Fourth of July.
Thank you,
