Memorandum
REPORT TO:Inter-Neighborhood Council
FROM:Chelsey Trevino, Water Conservation Technician
SUBJECT:Beautify Your Boulevard Program Overview
MEETING DATE:April 13, 2023
AGENDA ITEM TYPE:Citizen Advisory Board/Commission
RECOMMENDATION:Listen to presentation, ask questions
STRATEGIC PLAN:6.1 Clean Water Supplies: Ensure adequate supplies of clean water for today
and tomorrow.
BACKGROUND:The Water Conservation Division would like to incentivize you to get your
hands dirty while improving the beauty and water-saving ability of your
boulevard! Contest details are below and more information can be found on
our Guide for Contest Info Sheet. Check out the drop down menus below for
judging criteria, information on rebates, and project requirements.
Planning out your landscape design is an important step in creating a
beautiful and sustainable landscape. It is recommended to consider the
height, spread, bloom time, color, form and function of plant materials to
ensure your landscape thrives. Contact Chelsey Trevino at 406.582.2266 or
email ctrevino@bozeman.net if you have questions.
WHO: Existing City of Bozeman water account holders.
WHAT: A landscaping community contest intended to incentivize residents
to remove thirsty non-functional turfgrass and inefficient irrigation from
narrow boulevard areas known to exhibit water waste
WHEN:
April 1-June 30th: Contest registration
November 1st: Project Completion and Image Submittal Deadline
November 13th-Dec 29th: Community votes on submittals
January 2024 Winners are Chosen!
WHY: Boulevards in Bozeman are owned by the City, but maintained by the
property owner. These narrow strips typically feature traditional sod
turfgrass and have overhead spray irrigation which can result in an
abundance of water waste onto surrounding pavement. Incentivizing
residents to replace thirsty turfgrass and inefficient irrigation with drought
adapted vegetation will use less water and inspire others to do the same.
More information and registration is on the city's website (external link).
