Bozeman City Commissioners Major Andrus Deputy mayor Cunningham I experienced a fleeting moment of gratitude for the city of Bozeman when I read about there Equal Pay Day Proclamation. Imagine my surprise and disgust when I learned that Judge Harrington is being paid substantially less than Judge Seel! The hypocrisy of the City of Bozeman the last several days reads like a poorly written dark comedy. A mixture of eye rolling and jaw dropping moments accompanies the flagrant political wrangling displayed unapologetically in the public’s eye. This is no longer the Wild West where the small town cronyism, backdoor handshakes, and all too frequent metaphorical wink of “don’t worry, we’ll take care of you“ has a place. This is a shameful display of sexism and lack of equity. With at least three documentaries currently being filmed on the dark underbelly of the Gallatin County family court system (thanks to County officials attempting to cover up the well court documented “designer human trafficking“ scheme being run through Standing Master Bowen‘s court room that has now garnished national negative attention and legislative changes to bring under control) I really do not think the city of Bozeman wants any more negative press that will sour the financially advantageous real estate market of being “one of the best places to live”. If our Bozeman leadership is unwilling to do the right thing for the right reasons, perhaps, self-serving egocentric reasons of public humiliation will serve as proper encouragement to do the right thing. It is utterly embarrassing to think this is even an issue that needs to be disscussed in 2023. As the Montana State Representative for the National Safe Parents Organization (NSPO) I encourage you to provide equal pay and opportunities for your female judges to be consistent with their male counterparts.
