Dear City Commissioners:
Within the City of Bozeman there is a push toward the laudable goal of equity. However, it
seems the long sought after “equal pay for equal work” is not reflected in the City’s seeminglydisparate treatment of the judges in Bozeman Municipal Court. As I understand it, the City’s
first female chief judge is paid less than the male chief judge was just one year ago. Pleaseforgive my lack of citations or hard figures to reference as this just came to my attention, and I
have not had sufficient time to research this issue. Because Resolution 5488 was just added tothe Commission’s agenda, and is not scheduled for any further discussion, I humbly ask you to
remove this item from the consent agenda to allow concerned citizens adequate time toaddress this concern so you can have meaningful input before deciding. Alternatively, it
appears this issue could be resolved by simply continuing the present pay structure whichwould result in equal pay for equal work.
Respectfully,
Eric M. Brewer, Attorney at Law
