COMMEMORATE THE BOZEMAN CITY FOR CEDAW RESOLUTION - ADVANCING THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF ALL WOMEN, GIRLS AND THOSE MOST UNDER- REPRESENTED! Join us for the 1ST ANNIVERSARY ON APRIL 4TH AT THE BOZEMAN CITY COMMISSION MEETING @ CITY HALL, STARTING AT 6 PM!! On April 5th, 2022, the Bozeman City Commission unanimously passed Resolution 5384, establishing the city of Bozeman as a city for CEDAW (UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women), to work toward fulfilling the human rights of all women and girls. The upcoming April 4th City Commission meeting will mark the one-year anniversary of Bozeman as a US City for CEDAW and the Commission will report on the status of their Equal Pay for Equal Work Resolution. Our September 2019 Bozeman for CEDAW Taskforce report found that two primary influences on economic security profoundly impact women locally: a gender pay gap and basic living costs. For example, of the top 25% highest paid jobs with the City of Bozeman, 92.3% were held by men and 7.7% were held by women. Additionally, the percentage of women in Bozeman seeking housing, food, and energy financial assistance is disproportionately high. The same 2019 Report found that much of the local data was lacking intersectionality and was not well broken down by gender, race/ethnicity, age, education, income, sexual orientation, and ability. There still is much work to be done. We need to ensure that the local government collects data that contains important demographic details revealing gaps and opportunities. We need a local Women’s Economic Bill of Rights to address pay inequities, child care “deserts,” lack of paid sick and family leave, as well as housing, food and health care disparities. We also need strategic actions to protect our human rights to bodily autonomy and reproductive health care. Come find out the progress the City of Bozeman has made! Thank the City for their work on these issues, but tell them we need more Actions for progress. Please wear red in solidarity with missing and murdered indigenous women, and movements on menstrual equity, and ending all forms of violence.
