To whom it may concern:
I have been a Bozeman citizen for 13+ years at this point. There are many great things about
this city. However, the consideration for safety is absolutely outrageous.
It is no secret that it costs a fortune to live here. Contributing to the cost of living are the
insanely high county taxes, property taxes, and special assessment fees. The arrogance of this
city/county is dumbfounding when thinking about what my taxes actually contribute.
Tonight, on my way home from a restaurant, on perhaps the most heavily traveled night of
the week, the roads were almost impassable, and no doubt lead to MANY accidents, myself
and a family member nearly being some of them. I am assessed over $400 in "special
assessment" fees for things such as tree maintenance, along with over $4,000 worth of
property taxes per property for being a homeowner, yet my roads are never clear. I have even
been fined $375 for not clearing my sidewalks within 48 hours when I was visiting my parents
during Christmas. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
The audacity that this city has to charge outrageous taxes and fees to its citizens, yet not even
keep their streets clear, is frankly criminal. This snowstorm has been predicted for DAYS!!!!
Yet, the city, in all its arrogance, has decided to cut funding and refuse to create a system of
snowplows that keeps the streets even relatively clear for its citizens. It truly cannot be that
difficult to see a historic snowstorm in the making a week in advance and prepare a few plows
to keep some roads clear and your citizens that your campaign for safe. What exactly are my
hard-earned tax dollars going toward?
I pray that this email finds a set of ears that will listen. People's lives literally depend on it. If
not, please let me know what my thousands of dollars annually are going towards besides
"tree maintenance?"
Sincerely,
Blake Brumwell
