To: Bozeman City Commission From: Åsa Hultman Pape Re: Cloverleaf Zone Map Amendment application Honorable Mayor Andrus and Bozeman City Commissioners, I own and live full time in a single-family home at 514 N. Ida avenue in the Northeast neighborhood (the NEHMU area). I am writing to oppose the Cloverleaf Zone Map Amendment for the 707 E. Peach street development. Cloverleaf LLC is requesting a zone change for this property (currently owned by Mr Bronken). The property is a stone’s throw from our house. As far as I understand you have already voted against this zone change and also, as far as I understand, nothing significant has changed in their request for the change. I fear that if you vote to allow a zone change (though I also don’t think it is allowed to vote twice on the same issue), I fear that IF the development that Cloverleaf LLC first planned for the site doesn’t happen, then someone else can buy it and build something we really don’t want to see in this unique part of town. I don’t mind more housing, and especially more affordable housing in our neighborhood, and Cloverleaf, LLC’s first plan looked reasonable to me. Now, if you change the zoning, and if Cloverleaf LLC doesn’t follow through with their plan and someone else develops it, the risk is too great that we might end up with a project where very few can afford to live, and those who can afford to buy can use it as a short term rental or just have it sit empty when they are not here - we don’t need more second or third homes. We need first homes for the young. I know that you know about the problem I will bring up now … I work for a landscape company in Bozeman and it is getting close to impossible to hire people to work with us because the young can not afford to live here. Just today, I lost one great employee who is moving back to Breckenridge, CO because the city there is opening up for employee housing and even supporting the workers with affordable loans to buy a house. I know that you know very well about this problem so please don’t let it get worse. Please vote against the Cloverleaf zone map amendment (for a second time) and help us keep this fantastic part of Bozeman available for more people, and maybe even affordable for young people who wants to stay in Bozeman.
