Dear City Commission,As Bridger Creek subdivision residents, we oppose the proposed Shady Glen subdivision. We oppose it forthe following reasons: (1) There is only one, not two, possible points of access to/from this subdivision, which is unsafe for emergencies. (2) The property is a wetlands which regularly floods. The developerwants to degrade this environment further by reducing the required amount of watercourse setback. (3)Development plans include a cul de sac, which are now defunct structures in Bozeman because of theirasocial effects and lack of community connection.
During their last vote on the then proposed "Bridger Meadows" subdivision at this site, many citycommissioners were against development for the reasons listed above. Jennifer Madgic said: "I do notfeel that we, the city, should be responsible for approving somethings that has public health and safetyimplications because an applicant cannot attain something that is needed and in this case a second pointof access." "I am concerned with the viability of the emergency access and particularly its proximity tothe primary access."
Christopher Coburn said: "It's not in the interest of public health from the perspective of not havinganother access point." "I don't think it represents the true intent of a PUD which is to be innovative andresponsive to the needs of our community."
I-Ho Pomeroy said: "For public safety and environment like cul de sac and snow and fire trucks and alsono second public access and it's wetlands... I cannot support this development."
Mayor, Cyndy Andrus said: "I do not believe that what we are seeing is something that is a superiordesign and I think there are definite questions about health and safety as it relates to the public andpublic access to this property. These relaxations, primarily due to safety concerns specifically as it relatesto second means for a public access, water course setback, and block lengths and are a particularlyconcerning as it relates to public health and safety. For all those reasons, I will not be supporting thismotion."
It seems as if this development proposal has already been considered and opposed by the commission. Please reject this proposal quickly and permanently. Thank you.
