Dear Mayor Andrus, Deputy Mayor Cunningham, Commissioner Pomeroy, Commissioner Madgic and Commission Coburn, I am writing due to concern about the proposed Shady Glen Development which will be on the agenda March 21, 2023. I urge you to vote no on this development due to the proposal's inability to meet our city's regulations regarding public access, and the required buffer from wetlands and the watercourse. Mr. Murphy has revised his proposal from the 2021 plan just a little and sweetened it with a tad of affordable housing. However, it still doesn't meet the city's regulations. The regulations weren't written to thwart developers. They were written because developers have a history of betraying the public trust and damaging our irreplaceable environmental resources. Meeting the city's regulations might cut into Mr. Murphy's profit margin but his profits aren't worth risking public safety and the priceless environment and wildlife along the East Gallatin River. I live near Boylan Road and Story Mill Road and often walk the trails that connect Boylan Road and Glen Lake Rotary Park. This area is one of Bozeman's treasures and Mr. Murphy will make plenty of money building homes next to it, even if his development has to meet Bozeman's requirements for two public access points and abide by the environmental setbacks. Please deny Mr. Murphy's proposal until he can meet Bozeman's reasonable regulations for public safety and environmental protection while including affordable housing unit in the plan. I thank you for your service to our community. Debra McNeill 2512 Valhalla Court Bozeman, MT 59715 (406) 596-0002
