Dear Mayor and City Commissioners,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed Canyon Gate Developmentproject as currently proposed. As a resident of Bozeman, I am deeply concerned about the
potential impacts that this project could have on our community.
The proposed development includes plans for over 400 homes, which would result in anestimated 4000 car trips per day. If you consider that most of the traffic happens in a 12-hour
portion of the day when people are not sleeping, this equates to 5.6 cars every minute.Furthermore, the allowance of short-term rentals will result in even more traffic and
congestion, which would have significant negative impacts on the safety and livability of ourcommunity.
One of my specific concerns is that Maiden Spirit Street is being planned as a direct access
point to the development. The significant traffic increase (generated by an increase of 4000 cartrips per day) on a street such as Maiden Spirit is not safe for the residents and many young
children who live there. There are alternative access points that are located further back in theneighborhood, which would not cross trails or sidewalks and would minimize the potential
risks to pedestrians and children playing in the area. I am concerned that the development doesnot prioritize the health and well-being of residents or the preservation of our natural
environment.
I urge you to carefully consider the potential impacts of this development and to reject theproposal as currently proposed with the above-noted safety concerns in mind. There are
alternative solutions that could be pursued that would be more beneficial to our communityand better aligned with our values.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Carie Omland
