I oppose this effort in the strongest possible terms.Through community effort, we were able to defeat such an effort at installing traffic cameras
in Bozeman several years ago. This is a bad idea. Traffic cameras would create far more traffic problems than they would
solve. A cameral cannot know who is the driver of the vehicle — in many cases the driver isnot the owner of the vehicle - yet citations would be issued automatically to the owner of the
license plate. At traffic intersections, as was discussed years ago, drivers will be incentivizedto slam on the brakes at the first sign of a yellow light, which will cause far more accidents
involving cars behind slamming into the one in front.
We are all in favor or making streets and roadways safer for non-motorized users. This is notthe way.

now going to be up before the legislature starting on Valentines day in KellyFulton’s name. Please have staff contact Danny below if you want them to help.
This will take a concerted effort. Others on this email list can help organize thosewho you know. We can do this if we all work together!

Anyone can give me a call or email if you want to help push this effort in anorganized way. Maybe the School District or City would have a bus we could all
take to the most important meetings in Helena.
And please let me know who to coordinate with in the City. We should havepoliticians, police, engineers etc. And maybe it would even be a great idea to get
this kind of thing (along with other legislation) on the City public email lists.

You recently were involved in an email conversation or a personalconversation with one of the organizers of a new group dedicated to
changing the State Laws to allow cities and counties to use trafficcameras to issue traffic tickets.
One quick update, and an ask.
Rep. Ed Stafman from Bozeman has HB 414 (Allowing local
governments to use Red Light Cameras) going into the HouseJudiciary Committee on 14 Feb 2023 at 8 am. (Co-sponsered by Rep
Denise Baum of Billings).

We are working on talking points.
The ask is, we are setting up a structure to contact people movingforward as we think this will be a multi-session process.
