What happens when a vehicle becomes ‘plowed-in’ in Bozeman? The vehicle owner may be blamed, and fined. Have you driven down Olive Street lately? How about 15th going north? How about Enterprise Street between Graf and Stucky? There are so many neighborhoods in Bozeman where there are vehicles that have been plowed in. Because the streets of Bozeman are poorly maintained during the winter season, there are many families who cannot drive out of their own driveway due to terrible ice and deep snow. Why can't the city of Bozeman afford to plow these neighborhoods? The streets of 9th and 10th, between Mendenhall and Durston, are perfect examples of how the City of Bozeman completely neglects its residents. We can’t maintenance our vehicles enough to keep up with the rough roads just getting from home to work, if we even make it to work some days. Then if an individual has a plow on their truck, is it illegal for them to plow our residential Bozeman roads? What upsets me the most about this neglect and insufficient maintenance of our streets and public dominion, is that many of the cars, trucks, and motorcycles that get plowed in, so long as they are in affluent neighborhoods, are never towed by the city, never harassed, never required to move their vehicle as it may be in an unsafe parking spot for an entire winter to go by. Then, the City of Bozeman can decide to give some of us two days notice for a vehicle in a plowed-in situation before towing the car, and impounding it. Two days notice is not enough for us to take time off of work to be able to hire our own tow truck or spend hours shovelling. Why does the city get to decide to leave some of us residents alone about our plowed-in vehicles, but forcefully remove others’ vehicles, with little to no prior notice? Because, apparently, the city of Bozeman is partial to its own aesthetic affluence over the safety of its residents. I am just appalled that, while there are so many vehicles around town that are indefinitely parked for the winter due to poor road maintenance, our vehicle, parked on Haggerty where it is not blocking the visibility of any intersections or driveways at all, was towed. We were given two days notice, not at all enough time for a working resident of Bozeman to get enough free time to be able to move their own vehicle themselves. Just because the neighborhoods of Bozeman are full of affluence and expensive looking vehicles, these plowed-in vehicles around town are left alone. Then, on Haggerty, the City of Bozeman continues to harass the owners of vehicles who park there, many of us who are residents of the condos and apartment buildings out there. We have parked on Haggerty for decades, throughout the seasons, without any restriction or notice of obstruction. Now, it appears the City of Bozeman would like to pay off and fund its new, Bozeman Public Safety Center with the profits from parking tickets, fines and restrictions that target the middle- class and lower-class folks, and while they’re at it, ensuring Bozeman is a place of exclusive, wealthy elites.
