To the members of the Sustainability Advisory Board-
I am unable to attend tonight's meeting so am sending comments via email.
I understand you will be reviewing your work plan as well as having a park's department
presentation.
Here are some items I hope you will add to your work plan discussions and action plans. Thenumbers in parentheses relate to the work plan item.
I would like to encourage less time and money spent on EV charging stations for the
public. Please just make the city's current stations public such as those at the CanneryDistrict. (#1)
E-cars and bikes constitute a very small and elite percentage of our city's populationwho can probably charge their vehicles at home. (#1)
I support UDC codes or Legislation that requires all new homes to be wired for chargingcars. Not sure how this would work with all the new apartment buildings if there are not
garages included or who would pay for the electricity of a central charging station. (#1)In your HOA covenant recommendations please add the requirement of bug friendly
yellow lights on house/buildings. For more information, contact Mayor Andrus orComm. Madgic who attended the recent Doug Tallamy presentation on building habitat
for insects and birds. (#2)Another HOA covenant requirement would be to allow gardening on any part of the
property including in the boulevards. (#2)In support of the Sensitive Lands part of your work plan, please add a requirement that
prevents developers from encroaching into the floodplain, or buffer zone aroundwetlands. (#3) Upcoming example of this request by a developer is the Shady Glen
PUD. No deviations on this type of encroachment should be allowed for any reason.Extend the wetlands buffer to include a zone between a moving waterway's floodplain
and property lines. I.e. Bridger Creek and Legends II Phase 3. The city currently has acapitol improvement project costing $100,000 to protect Boylan Road due to the
shifting stream path of Bridger Creek. And Legends II is now put in the position oftrapping beavers due to the proximity of some of the homeowners properties to the
floodplain. This is rich beaver habitat and the city allowed the properties and road to betoo close to the habitat. Contact Brian Heaston, city floodplain eng. for more
information. (#3)Support the city's electrification program by adding rooftop solar to all city buildings
(#8)Send a letter to NWE to support and subsidize roof top solar. (#8)
One of the cheapest ways to cut emissions is to use maximum insulation in the citybuildings and require it in all new buildings. (#9) Send letter to NWE asking for
subsidies to help customers improve insulation.Increase commitments to clear ice and snow before discussing or adding new "multi-
modal" options. If one drives around this week, it's easy to see there are many sidewalksand sides of streets filled with ice and snow preventing walking or riding. Without better
commitment to maintainence of these pathways, it's not realistic to consider Bozeman ayear round multi-modal community. Winter simply lasts too long here. (#10)
Thank you for all your hard work.
