City Commissioners,
I advocate for the City Commission to support the request made by Gallatin Valley Beyond Plastics
for the city commission to adopt Resolution 5470 Support for Plastic Ban. This resolution would
support legislation in Montana’s 2023 legislative session to restore the ability of local governments
to ban single use plastics or at least some types of single use plastics. I bring reusable bags with me
to the grocery store and keep a reusable bag in my purse when I’m shopping. This is easy to do and
can reduce overall plastic use. Cities and towns in other parts of the country have adopted similar
resolutions. It’s time for local governments in Montana to be able to make decisions regarding bans
of single use plastics.
