Hello Bozeman City Commissioners, My name is Isaac Cheek, and my address is 610 Dell Place Bozeman, MT 59715. I am writing to express my support, as well as Cottonwood Environmental Law Center's support, for Resolution 5470. First, I would like to thank the City for considering this resolution in such a timely manner. Irecognize how full your plates likely are at this time of year, so it is commendable that you have prioritized this issue prior to the legislative session. When the Montana Legislature implemented a "ban on bans" via HB 407, it prevented localgovernments from protecting their citizens' constitutional right to a clean and healthful environment. Resolution 5470 is the first step toward restoring local power and addressing thepressing issue of plastic pollution. As Bozeman rapidly grows, we need to be proactive about limiting the amount of plastic we are putting into our environment. We are already seeing the dire impacts of plastic pollution inour own backyard. In 2017, Adventure Scientists completed sampling for the Gallatin Microplastics Initiative. 57% of samples in the Gallatin River Watershed already containmicroplastics, a number that is sure to grow if localities in Montana are unable to address plastic pollution. I support the Commission's approval of Resolution 5470 because it brings us closer to aBozeman that is free of single-use plastics. Thank you for your attention and action on this issue. Sincerely, Isaac Cheek Grassroots Conservation Associate Cottonwood Environmental Law Center(847) 977-8392
