I want to register my objection to these dangerous things. I am aware that one of the intentions of them was to
reduce vehicular traffic and give people an easy commute for short distances.
Since they have been in Bozeman I have seen very few instances where people were riding them correctly for
transportation purposes and that convenience does not justify the risk to pedestrians, cyclists, car drivers, and all
others that use the roads and sidewalks.
The majority of the time it is teens playing around on them. Going as fast as they can on footpaths with zero regard
for pedestrians, vehicles or themselves. I have lost count of the near misses where the vehicle driver, who was doing
the right thing, nearly hit someone playing on these scooters because they just flew out in front of them at full speed
from the sidewalk coming from behind the car. The drivers don’t have a hope. If they hit someone their lives and the
lives of their families could be ruined forever due to children being allowed to play on heavy duty motorized
vehicles on sidewalks.
Then there is the danger of littering the sidewalks. As you know many Bozeman Streets do not have lighting, ours
doesn’t. These dangerous toys are left everywhere. It is only a matter of time before someone gets killed or badly
injured falling over one in the dark. In this situation who is liable? The bird company, the City, the offending teens,
their parents?
Cheers Lyn
