Dear City Commissioners,
I am a property owner on Main St. downtown. I have had Bird scooters
discarded on my property, where they have remained for days at a time.
As I walk around downtown, I have frequently encountered Bird scooters
discarded haphazardly on sidewalks and lawns, and blocking passageways.
They are a hazard and an imposition on property owners. Littering our
town with their scooters does not add to Bozeman's accessibility or
charm -- it detracts from it. It also makes downtown less
pedestrian-friendly, when Bird scooter customers speed down our sidewalks.
An earlier, local scooter company had a business model that encouraged
users to return the scooters to designated areas. They accomplished
this by continuing to charge the customer until the scooter was parked
in a designated area. As a result, that company's scooters were never
problematic -- they were parked neatly in designated areas.
If possible, please require Bird and any scooter company to similarly
require that their scooters be returned to designated areas rather than
discarded willy-nilly. If not possible, then please ban such companies
from operating in Bozeman.
Best,
Diana Sauther
