Commissioners and Whom it May Concern,
This paid parking topic has been a heated debating around me for some time now, I am a
business owner downtown so it has great implications for my customers, my employees, and
myself.
I see benefits and drawbacks, hoping that paid parking might provide for infrastructure
development and control parking so that the areas around businesses and homes are turned
over more quickly and the parking spot occupants filled with people residing or doing business
nearby. I now have more concerns than I have belief in benefits.
I wonder, the plan seems to be ambiguous, how exactly will funds from fees be spent, and if it
goes into generating more parking inventory where will those structures, if they are structures
go? I have seen the development plans and it seems the focus is to keep the parking garages
around the Willson area of downtown leaving us on the east side of main without direct
benefit even as we see businesses join the community around us.
This being my primary concern; coupled with questions about how it will be implemented;
how passes, etc. would work; and out of deep concern that locals would think paid parking
means nothing but extra cost and extra hassle and therefore avoid the downtown corridor
more than they already do, leads me to urge you not to move forward with this paid parking
plan at the time being.
Cordially,
Jeremiah Dawson
