HomeMy WebLinkAbout015.1 Trip Generation MemoTo: City of Bozeman, Engineering Department Attn: Candace Mastel, Transportation Demand Management Coordinator From: SET Engineering Re: Sundance Springs Preliminary Trip Generation Analysis Memorandum March 2, 2022 This memo is being provided to provide the City of Bozeman Engineering Staff with preliminary trip generation values for the subject project based upon the Circulation and Parking Plan dated February 3rd, 2022, provided by Anderson Engineering/Synergy Engineering and Konsulting and included as Attachment A. As part of City’s site plan approval process, SET Engineering is providing trip generation information in lieu of a formal traffic impact analysis per engineering staff’s request. The conclusions outlined herein inform the need for further traffic impact analysis. Time Periods and Trip Generation The following trip generations values are determined for the purpose of this memo and are outlined in Attachment B. Calculations are performed with Trafficware’s TripGen 10 software, which utilizes trip generation rates derived from the Institute of Transportation Engineers Trips Generation Manual, 10th Ed. (ITE, 10th Ed.). These values, as well as entering and exiting values are shown in detail in Attachment C. Weekday Average Daily Trips are determined to be 462 Average Daily Trips (ADT). Weekday AM Peak Hour of Adjacent Street Traffic is determined to be 48 trips. Weekday PM Peak Hour of Adjacent Street Traffic is determined to be 33 trips. Weekday AM Peak Hour of Generator is determined to be 83 trips. Weekday PM Peak Hour of Generator is determined to be 101 trips. Internal Capture Rate In mixed-use developments, traffic engineers need to assess the trips that originate and terminate internally by other uses on the site. These trips in effect reducing the overall trip generation produced are termed internal capture rates (ICR). National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) publication 684 defines ICRs for AM Peak and PM Peak periods, which are used for analysis of the subject project and highlighted in Attachment D. Pass-by Trips Used to Simulate Non-motorized Modes: The Sundance Springs project site is located within a half mile of Sacagawea Middle School and portions of the Sundance subdivision, both of which are designed as multimodal environments; meaning connectivity is a key design element that is conducive to bicyclists and pedestrians. The intent of the subject community-oriented commercial site plan is to serve as an extension to that multimodal environment. Thus, to simulate the mixture of modes that will exist at the project, total vehicular trips need to be reduced. For the purpose of this preliminary analysis, those trips that would otherwise be distinguished as non-motorized modes are quantified using pass-by trips that are derived using NCHRP rated for certain periods. Those pass-by trips are shown in Attachment B. Please contact SET Engineering directly with any questions regarding traffic analyses for the subject project.
