RE: Support for Historic Designation for Westgate Village and Signage, 1003-1011 West College Street,
Bozeman, Gallatin County, Montana 59715
Dear Mayor Andrus, Deputy Mayor Cunningham, and City Commissioners:
I am writing to support the application of Mr. Seth Cooper for recognition of Westgate Village Shopping
Center on West College Street. I strongly support the historic designation proposed for Westgate Village,
including recognition of the historic and cultural significance of the rooftop and freestanding signage.
The building was designed by a former professor at the School of Architecture, Mr. Hugo Eck.
The improvements they are proposing to signage and the parking lot will improve accessibility and
visibility as well as contribute to the sense of place and interest in this commercial corridor, which serves
Montana State University, local residents, as well as visitors to our community.
The Bozeman Community Plan 2020 emphasizes the importance of integrated residential and
commercial activities and small-scale neighborhood commercial development, and Westgate Village is
an early example of this. The proposed comprehensive sign plan and parking lot improvements will
revitalize this historic business hub on West College and contribute to its future success, and this
investment in the local community is worthy of your support.
Sincerely,
Q c
