I have heard that the city wants to increase property taxes by up 35% now on the actual property value based on current real-estate values. Insane and highly damaging thought process. I’ve lived in Bozeman at a couple of different houses for over 30 years. Granted the price of homes has climbed steadily for the first 20 years but has recently gotten out of hand. This recent house bubble pricing should not drive property taxes. I am currently paying over $1200/month or Rent to you (city of Bozeman) the rest being Mortgage and Insurance. Please vote no on any increases for home owner who live in their homes or long term renters. Take a harder look at VRBO and alike as those homes can increase the rent easily enough for short term rentals. But a blanket increase will cause many of us who are retired, going to retire, or simply can’t make enough money to pay YOUR extra rent will have to sell our homes. You, the city, will be driving out long term citizens who care about our neighborhoods, long standing friendships throughout our community and regular visits to many of the local business. When I see your employees driving Brand New Vehicles while I drive something with 150,000 miles on it, I think to myself, “this is why I pay higher taxes”. Very bad kook for You. Your current spending spree doesn’t seem to take into account those of us who don’t want to spend the extra money on a new vehicle or adding a new wing onto my home. One possible solution would for the city to work harder at getting the State to approve of a local sales tax and freeze Property taxes back to 2012 rate for real live-in homeowners and long term renters. Very frustrated in the current situation as there is Always a new bond or mil levy being requested or assessed. Dennis Franks 1805 kenyon Dr. Bozeman MT 59715 (406)600-2045
