Dear Council,
I am writing as you to oppose the proposed property tax increase of almost 10%!
This would be a crushing blow to many native Montanans, including myself and my children who are
working hard to earn a living and maintain a home in Montana.
With the costs of basic goods, such as food, gas, and basic services increasing at rates not seen for
several decades, to add this tax places an undue burden on native Montanans. My family has lived in
Montana for 5 generations now, and I would like to see that continue into the 6th generation and
beyond.
While the growth of Bozeman has been is energizing, and property values have dramatically
increased, it does not translate into an increase in realized wealth for us who wish to continues to
reside here. In order to realize this gain in property values, I would need to sell our home and would
be forced to relocate somewhere else where I could afford a new home.
According totax-rates.org, Gallatin County already has one of the highest median property taxes in
the country.
We have been subject to several 'special tax assessments' over the past few years and adding this
proposed property tax increase of 9.92% would greatly increase the financial stress of our fixed
income household.
Please do not support an increase to property taxes.
Respectfully,
Mike Weaver
