A.1 00:07:26 Board Member Introductions
Board member Mike Wiseman introduced himself to other board members (cont. from Call to Order).
G.1 00:09:45 Most Important Historic Resources
Planner Rosenberg prompted discussion of how important historic resources can be identified and how
that would impact their level of protection. This included other municipalities' approaches, what
Bozeman considers its heritage for preservation, the potential for a community survey to guide the
process and what its prompts might be, methods for recognizing historic resources that have been
modified or demolished, and ways to increase community engagement.
G.2 00:54:44 2022-2023 Survey Location Discussion
Planner Rosenberg introduced the budget, history, and possibilities for historical surveys and inventory.
General high priority areas were identified, mainly north of Main Street and areas known to be settled
and lived in by minorities. The scope of any surveying due to budget limitations was discussed.

Memorandum
REPORT TO:Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board
FROM:Chelsea Holling, HPAB Board Member
Linda Semones, HPAB Board Member
SUBJECT:Fred Willson Multiple Property Submission
MEETING DATE:August 17, 2022
AGENDA ITEM TYPE:Citizen Advisory Board/Commission
RECOMMENDATION:NA
STRATEGIC PLAN:1.2 Community Engagement: Broaden and deepen engagement of the
community in city government, innovating methods for inviting input from
the community and stakeholders.
BACKGROUND:Over the past several years, HPAB has been working on research and
documentation of Fred Willson properties. Fred Willson was one of
Bozeman's most prominent and prolific architect in the early to mid 1900s.
Several of Bozeman’s National Register districts include Willson-designed
properties, but scores throughout the city remain unlisted and/or
unidentified, and many have already been lost. The City does not have a
comprehensive understanding of his legacy in the community and the hope
is to start compiling a central location for this research.
This project has been identified in the 2022-2023 HPAB Work Plan.

REPORT TO:Bozeman Historic Preservation Advisory Board
FROM:Elizabeth Darrow, HPAB Member
SUBJECT:Cultural Landscape/Heritage Tree Program
MEETING DATE:August 17, 2022
AGENDA ITEM TYPE:Citizen Advisory Board/Commission
RECOMMENDATION:NA
STRATEGIC PLAN:1.2 Community Engagement: Broaden and deepen engagement of the
community in city government, innovating methods for inviting input from
the community and stakeholders.
BACKGROUND:As identified in HPAB's 2022-2023 Work Plan, the board seeks to establish a
Cultural Landscape/Heritage Tree Program where the community can
acknowledge the importance of place beyond the structures of the built
environment. This can include heritage trees, parks, open spaces, or gardens.
The main point is that the significance of these places is based on their
association with a historic event, activity, person, or place. HPAB will be
discussing how this program could be established.
