BACKGROUND:Over the past several years, HPAB has been working on research and documentation of Fred Willson properties. Fred Willson was one of Bozeman's most prominent and prolific architect in the early to mid 1900s. Several of Bozeman’s National Register districts include Willson-designed properties, but scores throughout the city remain unlisted and/or unidentified, and many have already been lost. The City does not have a comprehensive understanding of his legacy in the community and the hope is to start compiling a central location for this research. This project has been identified in the 2022-2023 HPAB Work Plan. BACKGROUND:As identified in HPAB's 2022-2023 Work Plan, the board seeks to establish a Cultural Landscape/Heritage Tree Program where the community can acknowledge the importance of place beyond the structures of the built environment. This can include heritage trees, parks, open spaces, or gardens. The main point is that the significance of these places is based on their association with a historic event, activity, person, or place. HPAB will be discussing how this program could be established.
