Dear Commissioners: I live off of Trail Creek Road and in just the six years since I moved to this house I have watched the beautiful dark skies slowly deteriorate due to light pollution coming from downtown. It breaks my heart. The reason I bought this house was to star gaze and enjoy the beautiful night sky but my enjoyment is being destroyed because, to my knowledge, Bozeman does absolutely nothing to limit unnecessary and needless lights downtown. Other cites, like Flagstaff and Tucson set limits on the lumens andthe direction of night lights and set other limitations to protect the dark sky. Why can't the Bozeman City Commission do something similar to those cities? There are modest proposals that could be instituted that would make my life and many other like me who enjoy the night sky in Bozeman, so much more enjoyable. Too often, outdoor electric lighting installations at night are over lit, left on when not needed, and are harmful to the environment. As a result, light pollution is a growing global issue that can negatively affect our environment and impact our quality of life. All you need to do is go to this data base to find light solutions that would protect Bozeman's beautiful night sky: Lighting - International Dark-Sky Association (darksky.org) Please do something! It's outrageous that you set no limits on the increasing light pollution downtown. Michelle Brodie 888 Harrison Meadow Road Bozeman, MT
