Dear City Council,
REGARDING “FAMILY-FRIENDLY” DRAG SHOWS. In an article for Psychology Today, Kelli Palfy, Ph.D., a
trauma therapist, wrote about how sex offenders groom their victims for abuse. According to Palfy,
introducing sexually explicit materials to young children breaks down their inhibitions toward sex and is the
primary method sexual predators use to groom them for sexual abuse and TRAFFICKING. Explicit material
significantly increases the risk of a child becoming a victim of sexual violence. It also increases the likelihood
of the child acting out sexually against another child.
A “family-friendly” drag show is scheduled in the open air at the Emerson on July 29. These performances
are sexual in nature, simulating stripping, masturbating and other sexual acts. Men sport imitation breasts.
Not covered up, but bare breasts that look very real. Especially to a child. Subjecting children to these
behaviors grooms our children for sexual predation.
At these shows, children are given money to give to the performers. Encouraging the children themselves
to reward the very people who are grooming them for sexual predation. This is grooming our children for
sexual predation. It is wrong, destructive and even criminal.
MT code 45-5-504 states that it is criminal to “arouse or gratify the person's own sexual response or desire
or the sexual response or desire of any person.” These shows are sexually arousing to the performers and
intended to be sexually arousing to others. As such, they are criminal offenses and should not be allowed in
our city.
MT CODE 45-5-625 states: “A person commits the offense of sexual abuse of children if the person:
(a)knowingly employs, uses, or permits the employment or use of a child in an exhibition of sexual conduct,
actual or simulated.” Therefore, engaging children in TIPPING PERFORMERS in an exhibition of simulated
sexual conduct is in fact CRIMMINAL.
This performance must not take place in our city. If this city council allows for this to take place, you are
knowingly participating in criminal activity. Protect our children. Protect the decency of our city. Do not
allow this performance to take place. Please make ordinances to protect our children. Please post city
ordinances for easy access on our city website.
