I read in the Chronicle that the new budget had been approved with an increase of 9.92% and that the
Proposition 13 like initiative failed this year.
The commission has shown admirable regard for low income wage earners as we have seen rapid
property inflation but the commissioners are ignoring those of us who are homeowners in the middle. We
are at risk of being taxed out of our homes. A 9.92% increase demonstrates disregard for those of us who
have been here for many years. We will be forced to sell our homes due to taxes that increase at annual
double digit rates. This will leave a hollowed out Bozeman of lower to low middle income earners and the
very wealthy.
Please show respect for those of us who have worked, lived and raised our families here so that we can
remain for our retirements. Please keep tax increases lower. Blaming it on inflation alone is insufficient. We
are all facing inflation. The alternative is a Bozeman that has lost its middle and is likely to see a Property
Tax Cap Initiative passed.
