Dear Mayor Andrus and Commissioners,
My name is Crystal Alegria. My address is 191 Arcadia Lane. I am submitting publiccomment to strongly support the ordinance that will establish Indigenous Peoples' Day as a
City holiday. For the past seven years the City of Bozeman has recognized the secondMonday in October as a day to celebrate Indigenous people in our community, This has been a
wonderful opportunity to make Bozeman citizens aware of the indigenous people who havelived in this valley for thousands of years and still live here today.
Bozeman's Strategic Plan section 3.0 outlines the city's goal of ensuring that it is a safe andwelcoming community, and Bozeman’s Strategic Plan section 3.3 explicitly states that the city
will achieve this goal by welcoming diversity through its policies and promoting publicawareness. Ordinance 2109 accomplishes this goal by recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day as
a local holiday. Indigenous Peoples' Day honors the contributions and sacrifices of our localindigenous Nations. This amendment to the Code furthers the city's goals as set forth in
Strategic Plan 3.3. Thank you for your consideration, and your support of this ordinance that will establish
Indigenous People’s Day as a city holiday. Thank you. Best,
Crystal Alegria
