Fowler project: The citizens on this corridor would like to see downsized design options for the Fowler
project. The section between Oak and Main is zoned 100% residential and has houses within feet of where
a road would be put in. The engineers have heard comments from the beginning of their public surveys that
we would like to see a stop sign design option, (just like the rest of the N. to S. running residential roads on
Durston and Babcock) and we would like to see a 2 lane option. Please look at the section of Fowler running
S. of Durston. This is a very reasonable option and was approved and allowed when those houses were built
on that corridor. We have numerous examples of busy main arteries in Bozeman that are 2 lanes and 25
mph, (for example Peach Street from 7th to Broadway). We should not have a residential road with a speed
limit over 25 mph. We do not need intersections with giant roundabouts and stop lights adding to the
congestion of Durston and Babcock. Stop signs work just fine and go with what was already approved and
exist on the current section of Fowler I mentioned above. Please walk the entire project and take note of
how close all the houses are to the proposed Fowler Street. If the city had this project in the plans for so
long they should have done a better job of requiring proper setbacks of houses. A 2 lane option will also
cost less in construction costs and maintenance and snow removal. Funds that are not used for this project
can be spent on other road projects.
