In recent conversations with local policymakers, housing experts, and economic development professionals, regional housing collaboration and planning have been identified as a critical need to effectively address the growing housing crisis and enact innovative growth policies impacting interconnected regions. In Gallatin County, jobs are growing at 3.9% per year, while housing units are increasing by 2% per year. Without a sufficient supply of affordable housing, employers - and entire regional economies - can be at a competitive disadvantage because of their subsequent difficulty attracting and retaining workers. Economic activity, which heavily influences where people live, is not contained by jurisdictional boundaries. A regional housing strategy will lay out a set of clearly defined regional housing objectives, analyze the mismatches between employment and housing stock growth, and compare recent increases in rents and income, equity, and available assets. We would like to ask for your endorsement of a regional housing strategy to develop comprehensive housing solutions to address county-wide housing needs. Sincerely, Deputy Mayor Terry Cunningham r Jennifer Madgic 1 PO B 1230 : ' @ 121 North Rouse Avenue 1 @ 8·0;e;;n MT 59771_1230 ® 406-582-2321 , © 406-582-2344 I www.bozeman.net' ' TDD: 406-582-2301 THE MOST LIVABLE PLACE.
