Kirchhoff - Transportation Advisory Board comment Apr 27, 2022From:Steve Kirchhoff To:Agenda Subject:Transportation Advisory Board comment Apr 27, 2022 Date:Wednesday, April 27, 2022 5:26:38 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Dear Transportation Advisory Board, I am writing to urge you to NOT adopt Resolution 2022-03. There is not enough time to enumerate the many lapses in reason and representative government enshrined in this brief resolution. The first thing I would say is, this board has no rightful stake in making this un-democratic decision. This board, the Transportation Board, which is governed by the economic development wing of the city, is not the rightful entity to manage the city's responsibility to citizens in the maintenance of their quality of life. Economic development is not properly a concern of people living in residential neighborhoods, and the board that decides crucial questions bearing on the quality of neighborhoods should be responsive to their daily existence, not the enhancement of Bozeman City’s economic development. So, the organizational chart which puts your board as overseers of this decision, is wrong. And you are making a decision in a domain where you have no rightful place to make one. This resolution makes me heartsick. This resolution, whatever else you might entertain yourselves in thinking it accomplishes, is designed to increase margins for developers, who are beholden to finance houses and their benchmark margins. My hunch is, no one on this board believes what I just wrote in the previous sentence. My hunch is, you believe you are doing something good for the future of the community. That’s why I am heartsick. Sincerely, Steve Kirchhoff
