Dear City Commissioners,
I support Bozeman’s Resolution to make Bozeman a City for CEDAW (the Convention on theElimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women). The US is one of a handful of
countries that have not ratified this treaty for gender equality. They include Sudan, Somalia, and Iran. The late US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, nearly twenty years ago, said the
ratification of CEDAW was long past due. So kudos for doing the right thing. But in adoptingthis resolution, let’s make sure it has teeth.
My daughter and many of her LGBTQ-plus friends have left Bozeman because they did notfeel safe here—safe that their jobs would be secure, among other things. We need stronger
language in the resolution to protect our LGBTQ women and ALL women, and we also needongoing data research to make sure the resolution is working. Please let all our citizens know
that Bozeman will not allow discrimination against LGBTQ-plus or ANY women in our greattown.
Sincerely,Kelly Simmons
