Strong Towns Founder
Chuck Marohn
coming to Bozeman! Wednesday, April 6 - 3:30- 5:00 pm Bozeman City Hall - Commission Room
Charles L. Marohn, Jr.
Named by Planetizen as one of the 10 Most Influential Urbanists of all time, Charles “Chuck”
Marohn is the founder and president of Strong Towns. He is a professional engineer and a land use
planner with decades of experience.
Marohn reveals how the standard approach to fighting issues like traffic congestion, addressing
speeding and designing intersections, only makes transportation problems worse, at great cost in
terms of both safety and resources. The Strong Towns approach to transportation focuses on
bottom-up techniques for spending less and getting higher returns, all while improving quality of
life for residents of a community.
Join us Wednesday, April 6, 3:30-5 pm, Bozeman City Hall, 121 N. Rouse Ave, to listen to Chuck
demonstrate how the values of engineers and other transportation professionals are applied to the
design process, and how those priorities can differ from the values of the general public.
Marohn holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in Urban & Regional
Planning, both from the University of Minnesota. He is the author of Strong Towns: A Bottom-Up
Revolution to Rebuild American Prosperity, and Confessions of a Recovering Engineer:
Transportation for a Strong Town. He hosts the Strong Towns Podcast and has presented Strong
Towns concepts in hundreds of communities throughout North America.

Breaking out of the Housing Trap:
A Strong Towns Presentation
Talk of a "housing crisis"
pervades fast-growing
Montana cities, especially in
Gallatin County. These
problems are symptoms of a
deeper dysfunction. We've
turned a complex system that
should be adaptive and self-
correcting into one prone to
crises and overcorrections.
To address the dysfunction at the root of our housing problems, we
need to shift our approach away from a model in which large
developers and centralized financial institutions have unprecedented
sway over what is built, to a more antifragile housing ecosystem in
which the bar to entry is low, and neighborhoods can undergo
incremental change over time.
Join us Wednesday, April 6, Noon – 1:30 at the Masonic Hall,
14 S. Tracy (lunch is on Future West!) – and to gain a better
understanding of our interrelated housing crises and the rational
responses that Gallatin County communities can take. If you’re coming,
please RSVP Randy Carpenter at Future West: randy@future-west.org
