Over the past year there has been no progress on aquatics staffing and management. Bozeman
has the same challenges as other communities. Bozeman however, has shown completeineptitude in handling it. I have tried to engage for a year. I have no faith there will be any
change. It is great the voters approved money for addressing deferred maintenance. (If the Citywould not have ignored the facilities in the first place it wouldn’t have needed to ask the
taxpayers for a large lump sum for deferred maintenance.) I have zero confidence in therecreation department manager (Mitch Overton) or the aquatics manager/director (Elizabeth
Hill) to wisely use those funds.
How does one go about getting the city to properly manage and run its aquatic facilities?Dialogue with the city is ineffective. If I had the bandwidth to identify a legal remedy to
pursue and to organize a concerted effort, I would. I don’t. So, what does it take to get the cityto turn its aquatics facilities into well maintained and managed assets? This needs to start with
completely new management of aquatics, and perhaps even the recreation department. Theyare entrenched, ineffective bureaucratic placeholders who are biding time for their pensions.
