I strongly object to the proposal to sell the downtown fire station to a private developer for the purpose of
building affordable housing. There is not a less appropriate site for such housing in Bozeman. Since there
are no services any longer downtown, no grocery, no pharmacy, no reasonable dry goods, a car would be
necessary at this site. Giving away more downtown parking to a developer is simply throwing good money
after bad.
I don't understand why the city would sell this prime site in any case, with its proximity to downtown and to
the existing city offices. It's a perfect site for a small office building of appropriate height, including parking
and some green space. Yes! There was a time when city leaders valued green space! And with cancerous
growth continuing, it's likely that you all will start griping about needing more space for city offices. Well,
there's the spot and we already own it.
