Recently reported in the Saturday, February 26, 2022, edition of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, front page
article "Part of the Equation" the City of Bozeman plans to enhance the sale of the Fire Station #1 property
to potential buyers/developers by providing parking spaces in three city lots and generous tax increment
subsidy funds.
I am very concerned about the loss of parking spaces in downtown Bozeman. This perennial problem has
been the subject of numerous plans and studies throughout the past decade. A key finding of the
occupancy study by Walker Consultants shared in September and October 2021 was that the occupancy
throughout the downtown area was at 85% - which is considered "full."
Given that we all seem to be in agreement that parking is important to the downtown businesses,
employees and residents, not to mention seasonal visitors to our city; how is it helpful to our parking
situation to give out parking permits - up to 50% of the available spaces.? Oh, and through proposed
changes we could see a reduction of up to 75% of the spots as long as half of the parking goes to affordable
housing. How will you select the lucky golden ticket holders? Where do you propose the displaced park?
