Dear commissioners:
I urge you to accept the appeal requested by neighbors and business owners against the development of
HomeBase's North Central development plan. I support the arguments they present regarding not conforming to the
COD, parking concerns and lack of transition between boxy high rises and the historic value of the neighborhood.
The City Commission is on record for promoting an "easy transition" between four and five story buildings and the
surrounding homes and for wanting to protect the character of the neighborhood. However, these have
been consistently ignored; your actions have not followed your words. Many north central residents feel that the
development in their neighborhood is "destroying the heart of Bozeman" both physically and culturally.
I recognize the need for density throughout the city including in this area. I would welcome development in the
proposed area for middle and low income multi-family housing. I feel that yet another high end development will
only exacerbate our housing crisis. It should be noted that HomeBase has not created one single affordable dwelling.
Rather, luxury condo development in Bozeman is generating a continuing demand for more high end development -
primarily for part time residents. Approving this development is entirely inconsistent with the city's commitment to
addressing affordable housing.
