Regarding the proposed Fowler Avenue Extension:
Our Northwest Version of the Galligator Trail
Since the city has already procured the necessary easements, this Fowler connection should be our west-
side version of the tree-lined Galligator Trail (for pedestrians not cars) that Northwest neighborhoods
would use to walk to destinations on Huffine. This kind of pedestrian/bike connection has potential to get
us out of our vehicles, which would cut down on emissions. If your plan is that this connection is just a
sidewalk along the edge of a connector road (like on Ferguson, Durston, or Babcock)- - well that is NOT a
pleasant experience or safe walking/biking route. What we have on our side of town is a sea of houses set
up for vehicle convenience and set up to commute in our cars. On the other side of town, we have walkable
neighborhoods that have walkable destinations connected by continuous trails. Ferguson is not that far
away from Fowler. Ferguson functions just fine and you don’t have to inflict this road extension on us. Use
the easements you’ve already procured for our west side version of the Galligator trails instead of the road
extension.
If this project to punch a road through our neighborhoods is forced upon us and does cut us up even
further with this car-oriented model, then our traffic will cut through our neighborhoods
over to Fowler along streets like Cascade. I strongly recommend using the easements you’ve already
procured to instead provide a west-side version of the Galligator trail rather than another connector road.
So, let’s keep talking!
