Dear City Commission, I would like to submit public comment in support of the budget amendment to repair the playground at Christie Fields. My daughter and her family moved to S. Black over 2 years ago. This area is full of small families, both of students and work force members. There is a mixture of single family homes, duplexes, condos, townhomes and apartment buildings in the area. It is a lovely place to live, right off the Gallagator trail, near MSU and in walkable distance from groceries, doctors, day cares and convenience stores. However, the apartment buildings are not the kind that come with exercise centers, pools and community shelters. Nope. These are apartments and living units of the most efficient kind, without play areas for families. The playground has been on the repair list for the 2 years I have been visiting it with my grandson, and I am told for many years before that. This is truly a case of “if you repair it, they will come.” Families in the area have stopped going there because of the small size, the ratty equipment and the general lack of maintenance of the slides. I understand this is because replacement parts are no longer available. Please allow this playground to become the upgraded area the families in the neighborhood need and deserve. For many families here, walking with their children to the park to swing, slide and catch some baseball are the activities they can afford and that they truly appreciate. Thank you for all the work you do for the community, Linda Semones 404 S Church Ave with a grandson at 1912 S Black Sent from Mail for Windows
