Dear City Commissioners,
I am writing to you with great concern over the recent development plans, especially regarding
application No 21029 & application No 2116 and the HomeBase Partners 4.4 acre
development. The fabric of Bozeman lies in its residential homes and neighborhoods that
are within walking distance of the Main Street area. By allowing this development to move
forward and by changing the zoning from an R-4 to a B-3 you are creating the ground work for the erosion of these unique, and essential neighborhoods. Especially since there is
room farther out side of the downtown zone for such a development. This commissions’ continuing support of this urban build out threatens this town and its very character greatly.
Growth is coming and welcomed, but it must not be at the sacrifice of the Montana character that is in these neighborhoods. Rather than look at growth in tax base, look at this
town and what you are responsible in regulating. We want a welcoming place, and sidewalks with homes, lawns, porches, and families. This is what this downtown needs as
its framing...neighborhoods. We dont' need to turn into Jackson Hole, or Boulder, where local residents have been replaced by 6 story condos, renters, VRBO, and part time
vacationers who aren’t concerned with the character of our home town, only the ROI on their property's annual spread sheet. Our vibrancy is downtown, its lifeblood is the
surrounding neighborhoods, you can not let over building and further over crowding kill it. It's a vacation area, people will come and stay whether they can walk to downtown or not.
This is on your shoulders. I implore you to make your choice worth it.
Sincerely,
Deny Staggs1964 Maria Lane
